Contents: Motivation is important across all domains of our lives -- It is useful to differentiate types of motivation: some motivation is autonomous and some is controlled -- Autonomous motivation leads to more effective performance and to better psychological well-being across cultures, whereas controlled motivation does not -- People will be more autonomously motivated when the social environment supports them in satisfying their basic psychological needs for competence, relatedness, and autonomy -- Effective leaders support satisfaction of their followers' basic psychological needs.
